I’m always frustrated when I ask for the manager and if I say something like ”Where is the manager? Can I speak to her please” or ”Can you get her to call me back” people think I’m from another planet. Why does the assumption always have to be that a manager is male? Simple answer, because the majority of the time he is.
We’re supposed to have more women in management than ever, so why do I never come across them? I’ve made a decision that my deed for 100 deeds would be to ALWAYS assume that the manager is female, because the more people assume that a woman CAN be the manager of any organisation the less people will snigger and the more likely it is for women to be given the same opportunities as men and get those promotions!
Maybe you could do it too? Let’s make more use of those female pronouns…
