Hello, I’m Sam Orton and my daughter, Lottie Orton, is part of this deed too.

My deed is to give my daughter a copy of “the Female Eunuch” and her deed is to read it.

I read the book when I was around her age and found it really inspiring. It (and all the other feminist books I read!) helped me to realise that I wasn’t alone in the way I felt and that change was possible. My deed symbolises my attempt to bring my daughter up to be a strong, proud woman and to understand the history of the women’s movement too. We have lots of interesting discussions about what it means to be a woman today, particularly about sex, relationships and body image, which are areas where I sometimes feel we are going backwards instead of forwards.

Thank you for doing this, it’s a great idea, Sam Orton.
