My name is Ros Connelly, I am a playwright, inspired to devise and write a play about Emily Wilding Davison the woman, to try and get behind the enigma and beyond the debate about whether she meant to kill herself, and to explore her motivation and the very particular social circumstances. I received an Arts Council Grant to fund the devising of this play, which was an integral part of discovering the person. After extensive research, I worked intensively with the creative director Kath Burlinson and the wonderful young actress Lizzie Crarer to explore the making of a radical activist and the importance of her spiritual journey. We will be touring the play to venues across the country in June.
